Rodent Colony Management

Surgery
- BSF staff can perform surgery or train/mentor for stereotaxic surgeries or others as needed
- Suture repair
Technical Procedure
- Injections (subcutaneous (SQ), intramuscular (IM), intravenous (IV))
- Post-surgery analgesics/care (including suture removal)
- Blood collection (intravenous (IV), saphenous, cardiac puncture)
- Glucose/insulin tolerance testing
- Estrus determination (checking and tracking)
Food/Water Deprivation
- BSF staff can help with food/water deprivation for experiments
Terminal Procedures
- Euthanasia (Email bsf@utoronto.ca, then mark cages of animals to be euthanized with “X” on cage card. “X‘d” cages will be euthanized within 24 hours.
- Perfusion (Tissue fixation and removal. e.g. Transcardiac perfusion)
